Isn’t it hard to believe that it’s already March? The year is going by so quickly! And, for many areas of the country, it’s been a difficult year weather-wise. While we may dream of sunny and warm spring days, the reality is cold, windy, snowy, and icy for many of us. But, spring will eventually arrive and, when it does, many homeowners will find that the unusually severe winter has taken an abusive toll on their home’s roof.
Spend part of a March day looking at your roof
So, what are the signs that your roof may need to be replaced? Look for missing or badly curled shingles, flashings that have been pushed out of place by ice, granules that have been drug off by snow, and sealants that have cracked or broken loose in the cold. All of these things will indicate the need for maintenance and possibly even replacement of your roof. And, if you’ve experienced ice dams this winter, you will likely find that your roof is far more prone to leaks in the future.

In the meantime, we have to make it through the month of March! To help you with that, here are a few things you might consider.
Days to celebrate in March
March is a great month for eating. “Peanut Butter Lovers Day” was on March 1 followed by “National Frozen Foods Day” on the March 6, “Popcorn Lovers Day” on March 13, and “National Potato Chip Day” on the 14th. (You can add dip to your chips for “National Chip and Dip Day” just nine days later.) We can also celebrate apples with “Johnny Appleseed Day” on March 11.
Looking for something more substantial? Try “Poultry Day” on the 19th and you can accompany your chicken with “Waffle Day” on the 25th. Prefer something else to go with your waffles? Try “Pecan Day” also on March 25. Or, if you like your pecans in a different form and you’re mathematically inclined, there is always “National Pi Day” on 3-14. And, for a partially healthy snack, March 24 brings us “National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day.” On March 28, get creative and prepare yourself for this year’s county fair with “Something on a Stick Day.”
Hoping to take up a new hobby? “National Quilting Day” is on March 15. Or take up a healthy activity on March 30 with “National Take A Walk In The Park Day.”
Does this year’s weather have you on an emotional roller coaster? Here are a few days to consider: “Multiple Personality Day” on March 5. “Be Nasty Day” on the 8th. “Panic Day” is on the 9th (in case you’re worrying about who you were nasty to on the 8th). There is “Dumbstruck Day” on the 15th, “International Goof Off Day” on the 22nd, and March 30 brings us “I Am In Control Day”.
You can also celebrate “If Pets Had Thumbs Day” on the 3rd, “Plant A Flower Day” on the 12th, “Alien Abduction Day” on the 20th, and “Near Miss Day” on March 23. “National Joe Day” (especially exciting if your name actually is “Joe”) is on the 27th and, for the scientifically inclined, do not forget “Bunsen Burner Day” on March 31.
Regardless of where you find your fun this month, we hope that you had a great “I Want You To Be Happy Day” on March 3. We wish you the Luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day but do beware the Ides of March.
So, should we add a “Metal Roofing Day” to March? As you finish out the winter, enjoy some good times, give us a call at 314-596-0596 or drop us a note at [email protected] if we can be of any service… and please ‘Like’ our Facebook page.
